Ohio 6th Cav Volunteers

Over the weekend I found another 37 volunteers who joined the regular cavalry regiments in October 1862. All of these were members of the 7th and 8th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O.V.I.)regiments. The majority of them joined the 6th US, though I've also noted a number who joined the 2nd US. I still haven't found that regiment that Sidney Morris Davis claimed in his autobiography yielded over a hundred volunteers at about this same time, but I'm still looking.

I hope you can track that down, Don - do you think it was a NJ infantry regiment?

JD,

You know, I really did at one point. When we had that discussion a few months back about Paddy Starr and his NJ brigade, I thought that was who Davis meant. I checked Pynes, and the numbers don't appear to be there. Unfortunately, the 6th Cavalry's muster rolls for that period don't show a list of gains by name or former regiment.

I suspect Davis exaggerated a bit in his numbers, and the regiment in question was either a NJ or a PA one.
